First Generation  

1. Lieut., Nenon ARMSTRONG, Royal Irish Artillery [22422] was born in 1735 in Chapelizard Co. Dublin Ireland and died in 1789 at age 54.

General Notes: In a Summary of the Family, Graeme Beere writes:-
Lieutenant Nenon Armstrong, Royal Irish Artillery, (1724 - 1789) married Margaretta Berdet, Countess of Vevay, (1734 - 1807). Vevay, now usually spelt Vevey, is about ten miles from Lausanne, Switzerland, on the shores of the lake of that name.

Nenon and Margaretta married in September 1750 and had nine sons and three or four daughters. Their grand-daughter Mary Florence, wife of the Rev Gerald Beere, wrote 13 children, and she should have known. Perhaps one child died in infancy. Mary wrote that Nenon met Margaretta at the Duke of Leinster's when she was 16 and they married very soon after. Their third son, Alexander, (1767 - 1861) had a major influence on our family when his daughter Mary married the Rev Gerald Beere.

Nenon served at the siege of Gibraltar and was wounded there.

Nenon married Margaretta BERDET, Countess Of Vevey [22423], daughter of BERDET [22424] and Unknown, on 15 Jan 1761 in St Anne's Dublin Co. Dublin Ireland. Margaretta was born in 1734 in Vevey Vaud Switzerland and died in 1807 at age 73.

General Notes: In a Summary of the Family, Graeme Beere writes:-
Margaretta and her sister Harriet (who married Captain Bergue of Amsterdam), had to fly to England in about 1750 to escape the persecution of the "Hugenots" which followed the repeal of the "Edict of Nantes". All they brought with them was an old clamped French Bible, dated 1707, and printed in Amsterdam.

+ 4 M    iii. Genl., Alexander ARMSTRONG, Royal Irish Artillery [22421] was born on 5 Aug 1767, was baptised in Chapelizod Dublin Ireland, and died on 2 Dec 1861 in Bath Somerset England at age 94.

+ 5 M    iv. Capt., William ARMSTRONG [22429] was born on 28 Aug 1768 and died in 1820 at age 52.

   6 M    v. Thomas ARMSTRONG [22430] was born on 10 Aug 1769 and died on 2 Sep 1826 in Inchicore Dublin Dublin Co. Ireland at age 57.
