In an email, dated March the 24th, 2008, Graeme provided some of his History, as follows:
You may be interested in a bit of my background. I started my working life as a scientist helping to design a new radar for the RNZ Navy, then joined it as a radar officer serving in the East Indies Fleet. After the war ended I spent two years in England doing further training in electronic engineering. I took leave to visit Ireland in 1946 and stayed in Dublin with Francis John Beere, his wife Lucy and daughter Thekla. You may know that eventually Thekla had an incredibly successful career in the Irish Public Service, especially for a woman and from a non-Catholic family. She would have had to retire if she married so had a personal price to pay for her career.
Francis gave me a great deal of family history, some collected for my cousin Ian who was killed flying for the RAF in 1939. This included a history compiled by the Rev Gerald (1796 - 1876) and Mary who were his grandparents, and other material going back to William the Conqueror. Part of the Norman origins had been provided by the Dowager Duchess of Wellington, widow of the famous Duke. I have many names of Irish Beeres going back to the 12thC but also gaps.
Stanley Beere and his wife took me camping to the West coast near Limerick and showed me the old home in Adare where Gerald had lived after his retirement. I met George Beere and his two then teenage daughters who were still living there. I still can't find the father of George Beere the Dublin goldsmith (1718 - 99) although I know his wife's Molyneaux family a bit further back.
Noted events in his life were:
• Education: Auckland University, gaining a B.Sc., 1939, Auckland Auckland New Zealand.
• Military Service: a Radar Development Engineer in the Royal NZ Navy, retiring as Commander, Fleet Weapon and Electrical Engineer, 1942/1971.
• Association: NZ Institution of Professional Engineers, being elected a Fellow.
Graeme married Esme Alice Hubert HOLLAND [10015] on 12 Nov 1947 in England. Esme was born on 26 Oct 1921 in Ottawa La Salle Co. Ontario Canada and died on 24 Jun 1955 in London England at age 33.
