2. Thomas BISHOP [22559] (Unknown¹) was born about 1813.

General Notes: In a File of Information on this Bishop Family, Ivy Trott states:-

On Jane Bishop's marriage certificate she showed her father as James Bishop, a plumber and glazier, but it appears that his name was actually Thomas.

In 1841 he is shown as living at The High Street, Devizes, with Ann Bishop, presumably his mother. HO107/1189/1 Folio 19 page 30. He was a Painter, aged 25. In 1851 he lived at High Street with wife Sarah, aged 33, daughter Elizabeth, scholar, 7, son George aged 2, and Jane, daughter aged 1. This was HO107/1839 fOLIO 664 PAGE 36. In 1861 he is shown as a widower, 48, employing one or two men (in 1841 he employed six men as a plumber and glazier). Sarah must have died, for Elizabeth, aged 17 is now shown as housekeeper, with George, 12 and Jane 10, scholars. All born in Devizes.

Thomas married Sarah WOODMAN [22561] [MRIN: 8884] in 1842. Sarah was born about 1818.

General Notes: In a File of Information on this Bishop Family, Ivy Trott states:-

At the wedding of Jane Bishop and John Roland Trott, one of the witnesses was an Elizabeth Woodman Bishop. We assume that this was her sister. We are almost certain that Sarah's maiden name was Woodman. There is a Thomas Bishop / Sarah Woodman marriage on BMD. Elizabeth appears to have died between the 1851 and 1861 censi. In some way, as yet unknown, the Mott and Simpkins families must link up here. The Motts lived in Leicester at Upper Charnwood Street, which still exists. It is about a mile east of the city centre and off the Humberstone Road. This was the home of George and Rachel Mott, where Agnes Bishop Trott was staying at the time of the 1881 Census, and presumably at the time of her father's death. Also in the house was Sophia Simpkins, thought to be Rachel's mother as both are given as being born in Devizes, Wiltshire. Rachel, however, was a Noyes before marriage. Iam told that Noyes is a Devizes name

   4 M    ii. George BISHOP [22563] was born in 1848.
