2. William Edward BLYTH [11857] (John¹) was born about 1818 in Calcutta Bengal India, died on 31 Aug 1873 in Upper Norwood Surrey England aged about 55, and was buried on 02 Sep 1873 in Upper Norwood Surrey England.

General Notes: Deputy Commissioner of Lahore in the Punjab, India.

After Charlotte's death in 1849, the children were sent to their Aunt Amelia & Uncle George Blyth where they remained until the baby Herbert was about 2 years old.

They then went to live with Mr & Mrs Hunter, great family friends, in Agra.

The boys were sent to England for their schooling. In India, genial and kind Mr Hunter died, and some years later, Mr E W BLYTH married his widow, Mrs HUNTER, and she proved a very kind and loving stepmother to his children - keeping the family together and in touch.

William Edward BLYTH never came back to NZ as he had intended, the extra years in India had undermined his health, and he went to England to consult an eminent specialist, but the doctors could not cure him, and he died (still in his 50s) of Brights Disease.

William married Charlotte Matilda CHAMBERLAIN [11858] [MRIN: 5202], daughter of Henry de Tankerville CHAMBERLAIN [11859] and Unknown, on 30 Aug 1839 in Ghazipur Bengal India. Charlotte was born in 1822 and died on 21 Sep 1849 in Amritsar West Bengal India at age 27.

   11 F    ii. Alice BLYTH [11874] was born on 29 Apr 1842 in Gyah India and died on 08 Jun 1843 in Gyah India at age 1.

+ 12 M    iii. William Henry BLYTH [10268] was born in Sep 1843 in Dinapur Bihar India and died in 1924 in Oruru Auckland New Zealand at age 81.

   13 F    iv. Eveline Agnes BLYTH [11875] was born about 1845 in India.

Eveline married Edward C. WISE [16313] [MRIN: 6656].

   14 M    v. Walter BLYTH [11876] was born about 1847 in India.

   15 F    vi. Alice Madiline BLYTH [11877] was born about 1848 in India.

+ 16 M    vii. Herbert Arthur Chamberlain Hunter BLYTH [BARRYMORE] [11878] was born in Sep 1849 in Agra West Bengal India.

William next married Sarah O'CONNOR [11879] [MRIN: 5208] on 28 Nov 1857 in St Paul's Amritsar West Bengal India. Sarah died on 28 Mar 1883 in St Leonards-on-Sea Sussex England.
