Married Agnes ROBERTSON in Otago in 1880 (teacher on marriage certificate), and first 3 children born there; George in Wanganui; & 5th child, Ethel, born in Eltham.

Daughter, Isabel, married William McAlpine, a Hat Manufacturer.
His daughter, Ethel, notes: "Wee Max died 11 June 1929 (a grandson 4 yrs old) and Papa had a stroke the same day, and died 24 June 1929."
Died of cerebral haemorrhage at age 82 - buried 25 June 1929, at Eltham Cemetery. Lived in NZ for 66 years.

They had one son, J Xavier JONES. He corresponded with and knew Murray Frank ROBERTSON when Murray was part of Customs, Auckland, and Xavier worked for TEAL/Air NZ for many years.
Mary died in 1935 in Auckland, and is buried at Hillsborough Cemetery.
