Friday 10. About two o'clock in the afternoon, the Countess of Strathmore was taken from the house of Mr. Forster in Oxford-street, under the pretence of a warrant to take her before Lord Mansfield; but in fact to carry her off by a company of ruffians. She was forcibly thrust into her own carriage, her own coachman taken from the box, and a stranger put in his place, who drove off at a most furious rate, and did not stop till he arrived at Barnet, where the carriage was met by a company of armed men, to the number of eight: that in passing through one of the turnpikes, the lady was seen to struggle much, apparently gagged, and in great distress: but farther intelligence could then be ascertained. It appears since that she has gained her liberty; but, as her story is an interesting event in a free country, we shall forebear enlarging upon it till we can tell it on better grounds than common report. An Habeas Corpus was however immediately obtained; and as soon as confident with the forms of law, an attachment against Andrew Robinson Bowes, the husband of the lady, which it will probably prove a dangerous attempt to execute.

Henry Selby RICKARDS in the Egyptian Service [47984] (Mary SELBY453, Prideaux SELBY419, Mary SELBY369, Elizabeth COLLINGWOOD310, Elizabeth FORSTER247, John FORSTER of Cornhill199, Catherine GREY172, Sir Ralph GREY of Howick144, Isabel GREY134, Dorothy OGLE122, Maud GREY104, Lady Joan de MOWBRAY86, Lord John de MOWBRAY 4th Baron de Axilholm66, Joan de LANCASTER56, Henry PLANTAGENET 3rd Earl of Lancaster49, Princess Blanche d'ARTOIS41, Comte Robert I d'ARTOIS26, King Louis VIII CAPET of France22, Queen Isabelle [de Hainault] FLANDERS of France15, Comtesse Marguerite de LORRAINE de Flanders14, Comtesse Sibylla de ANJOU of Flanders7, Comtesse Ermengarde de la FLECHE-de BAUGENCY de Maine4, Helias de Maine (Comte)3, Jean de la Fleche (Seigneur)2, Lancelin I de Beaugency (Seigneur)1) was born on 29 Dec 1814 and died on 14 Jan 1886 in Beirut Lebanon at age 71. Another name for Henry was Abdallah [Pasha] EL INGLIZI.

General Notes: In an e-Mail, dated January 19, 2013, Patrick Grigsby included the following:
Earlier in his army life, Henry Selby Rickards had come to Egypt where he settled in early 1840's, converting to Islam, he went on the Hajj so that he could marry "Hanim" Fatoom. On his conversion, he changed his name to Abdallah (servant of Allah) and was later elevated by the then khedive, Abbas Pasha, and came to be known as Abdallah Pasha il Ingilizi. His Egyptian wife was the daughter of a [religious] Sheik, possibly attached to Cairo's famous Al-Azhar mosque/university. The Family were believed to be direct descendants of the prophet Mohammad; but this is in some doubt. They had seven children, the eldest Amin was known to my mother as 'uncle Amin'. I have the Works of William Shakespear, a tome that is insribed, "To dear Doshia from her uncle - Amin Abdallah - 17/9/18". During the first World War, my grand mother Mariam with my mother and her two sisters were evacuated from Turkey to Egypt whilst my grandfather was with the British/Anzac forces at Gallipoli my Uncle William on the Somme in France. In spite of Turkey being on the German side, when the Rickards family returned to Mersin the Turkish authorities handed back, intact with contents, the many properties that my grand father owned in Mersin.
AND, in an e-Mail from Noha Sadek, received on February the 12th, 2013, she substantiated much of what Patrick has said; but added:
Henry Rickards held several positions in the Egyptian administration, including that of the first director of the Egyptian railways in 1853, but he was dismissed the following year when Khedive Said came to power. HSR left Egypt in 1869 for England until a final move to Lebanon in 1876.
In an e-Mail from James Wilkinson in May 2013, he included the following Quote from Nick Rickards:
As a teenager, Henry went to Portugal to join a "private army" of the Queen of Portugal \endash probably all mercenaries - and he stayed there until he was in his early 20's At some point, he arrived in Egypt as a translator for the British Colonial service and made a career in Cairo and Alexandria. For a year, he was the Director General of the Egyptian state railways, working with George Stephenson to build the Cairo to Alexandria railroad. His portrait is hung in the municipal museum in Cairo. After that year, he was replaced by an Egyptian but became a "General in the Egyptian Service" and was called Abdallah Pasha El Ingles.
