General Notes: In a Document received from Patrick de Meulemeester in March 2021, he included the following:
Here is what Thomas Ignatius Forster wrote about his father and the origins of his family in his book 'Book of My Life, My Books and My Thoughts: Philosophical Opuscule'
My father, Thomas Furly Forster, was a gentleman of a very old family from Normandy, a family that had long lived near the borders of Scotland.
My ancestors, the Forsters of Bamborough, Northumberland, received their weapons in the famous battles of Cressy(Crecy) and Azincourt (Agincourt).
But having distinguished themselves in the civil war of 1715, as supporters of the Catholic dynasty of the STUARTS, they were stripped of their estates.
As supporters, it was mainly General Thomas Forster (1638-1738) who rallied the cause of this rebellion and this caused him to lose all his rights and properties which he had to cede to his brother John FORSTER.
AND, in a Document received from Patrick de Meulemeester in June 2021, he stated that,
Sir Thomas was one of the first members of the LINNEAN Society and with his brother Benjamin Meggot Forster, he joined the 'Anti-Slavery Society' in 1823.
He had following botanists as friends, Sir James Edward Smith, Sir Joseph Banks, Jonas Dryander, James Dickson, Robert Brown and Adam Afzelius.
Wikipedia says of this Thomas,
Thomas Furly Forster (1761\endash 1825) was an English botanist.
He was born in Bond Street, Walbrook, on 5 September 1761, the eldest son of Edward Forster the Elder and his wife Susanna Furney.[1] His father retired to Walthamstow in 1764, and, being an admirer of Jean-Jacques Rousseau, brought up his son on his principles. From his uncle Benjamin Forster he acquired a taste for antiquities, coins, prints, and plants. He was introduced to the Linnean system of classification by the Rev. John Dixon, and was further encouraged in his studies by Joseph Cockfield of Upton, Michael Tyson, Sir John Cullum, and Richard Warner, author of the Plantζ Woodfordienses (1771).[2]
Forster was one of the first fellows of the Linnean Society, and he visited Tunbridge Wells annually. From 1796 to 1823 he mainly resided at Clapton, and, as he had grown hardy plants in his home at Walthamstow, then devoted himself to greenhouse exotics, giving assistance to the Loddiges family in establishing their nursery in Hackney.[2]
In 1823 Forster, with his brother Benjamin, joined the committee of the Anti-Slavery Society.[3] That year he moved to Walthamstow on the death of his mother, and died there 28 October 1825. He was a member of many scientific and philanthropic societies, and among his friends were Richard Porson and Richard Gough, as well as botanists: Sir James Edward Smith, Sir Joseph Banks, Jonas Dryander, James Dickson, Robert Brown, and Adam Afzelius.[2]
He has been honoured in the name of Sedum fosterianum, which was first published by Sir James Edward Smith in English Botany (Engl. bot.) Vol.26 on table 1802 in 1808.

General Notes: The Forster family
During the 19th century, the Forster family were the major landowners in the area. They lived at Southend Hall, which was located just south of the junction of Whitefoot Lane and Bromley Road. The parkland attached to the hall stretched away eastwards and was divided by Whitefoot Lane. The larger part lay to the south of the lane, whilst the smaller part to the north was divided into two. The eastern section was surrounded by thick belts of trees, except alongside Whitefoot Lane. In 1919 Mr W H Forster made a gift to the Metropolitan Borough of Lewisham of this part of his estate to become a public park and commemorate his two sons Alfred and John, both lost in the First World War. Mr Forster (MP for Bromley and later Lord Forster) went on to become Governor-General of Australia from 1920 to 1925. The park, gratefully received by the Council as much-needed open space for the new estates being built in the area at that time, was opened to the public in Lord Forster's absence by his daughter, the Hon. Mrs Lubbock, in 1922. The park was almost doubled in size to the north in 1937, following a deal between the Forster Estate Company and the London County Council.
