13. Seba ARMITAGE [5673] (Martha DOANE⁵, Ebenezer³, Joseph², Daniel¹) was born on 11 Jun 1786 in Solebury Bucks Co. Pennsylvania USA and died on 27 Aug 1819 in Middletown Butler Co. Ohio USA at age 33.

General Notes: In a File provided by Kate Bush in September 2010, she stated when referring to both Seba and his Wife, Eleanor, that:
they were disowned by the Quakers in 1812 and 1814 respectively, they never became members of the Children of Peace.

Seba married Eleanor SIDDONS [5680] [MRIN: 3116], daughter of Samuel SIDDONS [5681] and Frances BROOKE [5682], on 29 Dec 1808 in Whitechurch Ontario Province of Upper Canada. Eleanor was born on 26 Feb 1790 in Pennsylvania USA and died on 25 May 1852 in Springboro Ohio USA at age 62.

General Notes: In an email, dated January 23, 2003, from Virginia Hawley Currey, she states:
"After Seba's death, Eleanor married twice: Aaron Vail by whom she had at least 3 children, one of whom was Samuel S. Vail of San Diego, CA. Her last husband was John Haines.

After my mother Grace Armitage Hawley died in 1948 I found notes written by S. S. Vail regarding his mother Eleanor. According to his notes, her grandfather John Siddons was born near Reading, PA 1729 or 1731. .
He married ELEANOR ROBERTS in Swede's Church, Philadelphia 6th mon 17th 1757, and in the year 1805 emigrated with his family to Uxbridge, Canada from Roaring Creek, PA. ELEANOR ROBERTS and JOHN SIDDONS had a son SAMUEL and perhaps a daughter called Eleanor. Records of the Presbyterian church in Abington show Samuel Siddons and Frances Brooke were married April 30, 1789. "

   30 M    iv. John ARMITAGE [8343] was born on 10 Dec 1816 and died on 19 Jun 1845 at age 28.

14. Anna ARMITAGE [5674] (Martha DOANE⁵, Ebenezer³, Joseph², Daniel¹) was born on 26 Sep 1787 in Bucks Co. Pennsylvania USA, died on 29 Dec 1865 at age 78, and was buried in Hicksite Burying Ground Newmarket Ontario Canada.

Anna married Isaac WIGGINS, Jr. [5683] [MRIN: 3118], son of Isaac WIGGINS [5684] and Phoebe BLAKER [5685], in 1804. Isaac died before 1829.

Anna next married Samuel HUGHES [5689] [MRIN: 3121] on 21 Jun 1829 in Meeting House of the Children of Peace Sharon Ontario Canada. Samuel was born on 04 Feb 1785 in Catawissa Columbia Co. Pennsylvania USA, died on 11 Dec 1856 at age 71, and was buried in Hicksite Burying Ground Newmarket Ontario Canada.

15. Harvey ARMITAGE [5675] (Martha DOANE⁵, Ebenezer³, Joseph², Daniel¹) was born on 02 Mar 1789 in Catawissa Columbia Co. Pennsylvania USA, died on 23 Apr 1877 in Mariposa Twsp. Victoria Co. Ontario Canada at age 88, and was buried in Apr 1877 in Friends Cemetery Woodville Mariposa Victoria Ontario Canada.

General Notes: Harvey and Barbara Armitage are buried in the Friends Cemetery at Linden Valley.
Linden Valley comprised the general area which includes lots 20 & 21, Con.XI and the south half of XII. The name was chosen by Henry Rezin in 1879 when a rural Post Office was established here. The area was originally settled by Quakers from the Newmarket area.

16. Amos ARMITAGE, Jr. [5676] (Martha DOANE⁵, Ebenezer³, Joseph², Daniel¹) was born on 10 Apr 1790 in Solebury Bucks Co. Pennsylvania USA, died on 30 May 1871 in Whitchurch Ontario Canada at age 81, and was buried in Hicksite Quaker Burying Ground Yonge Street Newmarket Ontario Canada.

General Notes: A member of the Yonge Street meeting of Society of Friends, he was among those who separated to join with David Willson in December, 1812. The family moved to Lots 1-2, Concession 2 of West Gwillimbury township. Wife Mary returned to orthodox Friends meeting on February 13, 1817 and Amos likely did the same, as he was once again separated on September 4, 1828 to join the Hicksite followers. Active in the Hicksite meeting, along with his father, he is listed on the 1851 census as a yeoman living in a one-story frame house. The diary of Ezra Doan tells us that his funeral was held on the afternoon of Wednesday, May 31, 1871. He was buried in the Hicksite cemetery.

Amos married Mary PHILLIPS [6682] [MRIN: 3494], daughter of Isaac PHILLIPS [6683] and Edith EVES [6684], on 02 Dec 1808 in Yonge Street Meeting House Newmarket Ontario Canada. Mary was born on 15 Feb 1791 in Muncy Pennsylvania USA and died on 07 Jul 1870 in Whitchurch York Co. Ontario Canada at age 79.

Hester Mary Chantler was born at Broadmoor, Wotton, Surrey, 28 May 1820, died 20 0r 23 February 1899 and was buried in the Hicksite Quaker Cemetery in King Township. She and her youngest brother Nathaniel, as orphans were first placed with a Quaker family called Simpson. Working conditions were extremely hard for a girl and her health began to fail and she was sent to the home of Samuel and Elias Rogers. Finally she worked for Seth and Ann Armitage where she met her husband, Brooke Dennis of Whitchurch

OLD RESIDENT GONE

Death has been very busy among the old residents of the county during the past week and one who has for nearly a century lived with in sight of Newmarket--or at least of the place where it now stands---has been called away.Mr Seth Armitage, the subject of this notice came from Roaring Creek, Pennsylvania, with his parents in 1804, the country being at that time one unbroken wilderness. His father came at that time and selected the farm on which the deceased breathed his last, on what wa then known by the name of the " Indian Trail" now Yonge street.
On that placed the deceased passed his boyhood, youth, manhood and descended into the full ripeness of old age; living the peaceful quiet life of a contented farmer, and living to see a large family of children grow up around him, all of whom are well-to-do, prosperous citizens
He had a family of 11 children, 8 sons and 3 daughters, all of whom are living, the oldest being 70 years of age and the youngest 55 years. Deceased was a member of the Society of Friends, and regularly attended their meetings. His hale and hearty appearance under the weight of so many years was no doubt due in some measure to the temperate and quiet habits enjoined by the sect of which he was a member. From the same cause he also passed through the stirring and troublous times of the Rebellion of 1837 without being materially distturbed; the only event in which he was forced to take part being on one occassion when his team was presseed into service against his will. In politics Mr. Armitage was a Liberal of a prounounce type. During his long life he never polled a vote which not in accordance with the principals of the Liberal Party and his own honest convictions. His death on Wednesdaymorning was like that of one, who, having finished a long journey, falls asleep to enjoy a well earned rest. Full of years and hnored among his fellow man, he calmly slept the sleep which knows no waking until the last trumpet shall sound. To those who have known him so long and loved him so well, we offer our sympathy.

Seth married Anna PHILLIPS [6874] [MRIN: 3551], daughter of Isaac PHILLIPS [6683] and Edith EVES [6684], on 23 May 1816 in Yonge Street Metting, York County, Ontario, Canada. Anna was born on 17 Feb 1797 in Millville Columbia Pennsylvania USA and died on 17 Oct 1859 in York Co. Ontario Canada at age 62.
