1. Thomas DUFFUS [15833] was born 09 Mar 1778 in Jamaica West Indies and died 13 Mar 1835 in Boulonge sur Mer France at age 57.
General Notes:Born in Jamaica.
After 1827 he wrote to his son, John, in England advising him not to return to Jamaica where he says "There is now nothing but corruption, intrigue and dissimulation."
At this date his wife and daughters were in England (where the children went to be educated) and he sends his affectionate greetings to them.
Susannah later joined her husband in France. After he died she returned to England, and later followed her son to Australia, and then in 1848 to NZ.
Died 13 March 1835 aged 56 in Boulogne Sur Mer, France.
Thomas married Susannah Gordon BERRYMAN [15834] [MRIN: 6504] 15 Nov 1802 in Jamaica West Indies. Susannah was born 07 Jan 1784 in Pennsylvania USA and died in New Zealand.
General Notes:Her parents were Quakers in Pennsylvania, USA. When Susannah was 10, they sent her to England for her education but, with war breaking out soon after she left Philadelphia, the vessel in which she was sailing was captured by the French, recaptured by the English, and taken into Kingston Harbour, Jamaica.
The little girl was adopted by Mr & Mrs Gordon under whose care she was travelling, and they had her christened by their name. Soon after they died of yellow fever, within a few days of each other, and she was then adopted by Alexnader Duffus and his wife Frances, into which family she afterwards married.
She followed her son to Australia after her husband died, and then to Australia [should this be New Zealand?] in 1848.

General Notes:Laura married a Polish Prince, and went to Australia on the "Eden" with other family members in 1838.
