2. King Aethelwulf of Wessex [120822] (Ecgberht of Wessex (King)¹) was born about 795 in Kingdom of Wessex England, died on 13 Jan 858 in Stamridge Kingdom of Wessex England aged about 63, and was buried in Winchester Hampshire England.

Aethelwulf married Countess Judith MARTEL of Flanders [120142]. Judith was born in Oct 844 in Orleans Loiret Centre-Val de Loire France and died in Apr 870 in Auxerre Yonne Bourgogne Franche-Comté France at age 25.

Judith was a Carolingian princess who, by her three successive marriages, became Queen of Wessex and Countess of Flanders. The daughter of Emperor Charles the Bald, she married the elderly King Æthelwulf of Wessex as an adolescent and was crowned queen in contravention of the custom in Wessex. After Æthelwulf's death in 858, Judith married his son and successor, Æthelbald. Her marriage with her stepson, considered scandalous by her contemporaries, ended with his death in 860. Queen Judith then returned to her father, only to elope in 861 or 862 with the Flemish forester Baldwin. Having thus provoked her father's wrath, Judith and Baldwin went into exile. They were reconciled with Charles in late 862, after which Baldwin was granted the march of Flanders.

Aethelwulf next married Queen Consort Osburga of Wessex [120832]. Osburga was born between 807 and 830 in Wessex England and died in 855 in Wessex England.

   6    iv. Queen Athelswith of Mercia [120836] was born about 838 in Wessex England and died in 888 in Pavia Lombardy Italy aged about 50.

Athelswith married King Burgræd of Mercia [120837]. Burgræd was born about 815 in Mercia England and died about 888 in Pavia Lombardy Italy aged about 73.
