38. Count Baudouin III of Flanders [120123] (Count Arnoul I of Flanders¹⁴, Countess Ælfthryth of Flanders⁹, Alfred [the Great] of the Anglo-Saxons & Wessex (King)⁷, Aethelwulf of Wessex (King)², Ecgberht of Wessex (King)¹) was born about 940 in Vlanderen [Flanders] Belgium, died on 1 Jan 962 in Abbey of St. Bertin Saint-Omer Vlaanderen France aged about 22, and was buried in St Omer Vlanderen Belgium. The cause of his death was Smallpox.

Arnulf I made Baldwin III co-ruler of Flanders in 958. During his short rule, Baldwin was responsible for establishing the wool manufacturing industry at Ghent and markets at other towns in Flanders.[3] Baldwin III died of smallpox on 1 January 962, after a campaign against the Normans.[1] After Baldwin's death, Arnulf I arranged for King Lothair of France to become the guardian of Baldwin's son, Arnulf II, who succeeded Arnulf I.[4]

Baudouin married Countess Matilda BILLUNG of Flanders [120124]. Matilda was born about 938, died on 25 May 1008 aged about 70, and was buried in Ghent Vlanderen Belgium.

She was born in Herzogtum Sachsen, Ostenfrankenreich, now part of modern Germany. Matlida was the sister of Swanhilde of Saxony and Bernard I, duke of Saxony; and half sister of Liudger von Sachsen, Graf von Lesum und Westfalen and Imma Von Billung, Abbess of Hereford.[1]

Matilda was the wife of Baldwin III, count of Flanders, with whom she had a son Arnulf II the Young, count of Flanders. After Baldwin's death, Matilda married Godefroi I the Captive, count of Ardennes, with whom she had eleven children: Adelaide d'Ardennes, Duchess of Lorraine; Comte van Verdun Godefroy Herzog von Niederlothringen, II; Gerberge de Verdun, comtesse; Hermann, comte de Verdun et d'Enham; Gothelo I "the Great", duke of Lorraine; Irmgard, comtesse de Verdun; Roger de Verdun, Governor of Ambriences Castle;[citation needed] Frédéric de Verdun; Regilla de Verdun; comte Adalberto Evêque de Vermandois, II and Ermentrude von Lothringen de Verdun.[1][citation needed][2]

King Louis IV de CAROLINGIA of France [123477] (Queen Eadgifu of WESSEX of France²⁵, Eadweard I "the Elder" of the Anglo-Saxons (King)¹¹, Alfred [the Great] of the Anglo-Saxons & Wessex (King)⁷, Aethelwulf of Wessex (King)², Ecgberht of Wessex (King)¹) was born on 10 Sep 920 in Laon Champagne Aisne Hauts-de-France France and died on 10 Sep 954 in Rheims Champagne-Ardenne France at age 34.

Louis married Gerberga de OTTONIA of Saxony [123784]. Gerberga was born about 913 in Nordhausen Thüringia Germany and died on 5 May 984 in Reims Marne Champagne-Ardenne France aged about 71.

King Edgar I "the Peaceful" of WESSEX of the English [123462] (Edmund I "the Magnificent" of the English (King)³², Eadweard I "the Elder" of the Anglo-Saxons (King)¹¹, Alfred [the Great] of the Anglo-Saxons & Wessex (King)⁷, Aethelwulf of Wessex (King)², Ecgberht of Wessex (King)¹) was born on 7 Aug 943 in Wessex England and died on 8 Jul 975 in Winchester Hampshire England at age 31.

Edgar (Old English: Eadgar ['æ??dg??r]; c. 943 \endash 8 July 975), known as Edgar the Peaceful or Edgar the Peaceable, was King of the English from 959 until his death. He was the younger son of Edmund I and Ælfgifu of Shaftesbury, and came to the throne as a teenager, following the death of his older brother Eadwig. As king, Edgar further consolidated the political unity achieved by his predecessors, with his reign being noted for its relative stability. His most trusted advisor was Dunstan, whom he recalled from exile and made Archbishop of Canterbury. The pinnacle of Edgar's reign was his coronation at Bath in 973, which was organised by Dunstan and forms the basis for the current coronation ceremony. After his death he was succeeded by his son Edward, although the succession was disputed.

Saint Edith of Wilton (c. 963[1] - 16 September 984-987[2] ) (also known as Eadgyth, her name in Old English, or as Editha or Ediva, the Latinised forms of her name) was an English nun, a daughter of Edgar the Peaceful, king of England (r. 959\endash 975). She was born between 961 and 964 and died on 16 September in a year between 984 and 987.[3] Following her death in 984, she became the patron saint of her community at Wilton Abbey in Wiltshire and churches were dedicated to her in Wiltshire and in other parts of Anglo-Saxon England. Her biography was written by Goscelin and her feast day is on 16 September.
