An active life for gentleman farmer
Geoffrey Bayard Gibson Edgell CBE, farmer, born in Launceston, August 28, 1908, died in Hobart, February 27, 2000.

Although Geoffrey Edgell spent most of his life in Southern Tasmania's Bothwell area, it is true to say that his life view was moulded by his early life and education in Launceston.

Mr Edgell moved with his parents, Bayard and Ethel Edgell, to a property at Bothwell when he was five but he was sent north again to receive his education at Launceston Church Grammar School.
The Edgell family managed a number of Lake Country properties, and in 1956 added Dennistoun.
He married Gwendoyn Courthope, of Hobart, in 1935.
Mr Edgell was a former president and life counsellor of the Royal Agricultural Society of Tasmania, president of the Tasmanian Farmers, Stockowners and Orchardists' Association and vice-president of the Australian Woolgrowers and Graziers Council.
He was elected to Bothwell Council in 1952 and was warden for 11 years from 1965.
He was also a warden of Bothwell's St Michael and All Angels Anglican Church in which his funeral ceremony was held on March 2.
In a eulogy by son Henry, Mr Edgell was described as a committed father, farmer, community member and Christian.
Mr Edgell is survived by his sister Nell Gray, his son Henry, and daughters Cynthia Staley and Rosie Mackinnon.

Geoffrey married Gwendolyn Fanny COURTHOPE [21435] [MRIN: 8525]. Gwendolyn was born about 1909 and died in 1987 aged about 78.
