DEATH OF MR. JOHN STENNETT. Mr John Stennett, a well-known figure in the commercial and social life of Brisbane, died on Saturday afternoon For some years he had been in ill health and last week a severe operation was performed from which he failed to rally. Mr Stennett was born in Jamaica, and in his early life he spent 18 years at sea He married a daughter of Dr. Elliott, principal partner in the well-known firm of Elliott Brothers, Limited, wholesale druggists, and giving up the sea became associated with the management of the firm's business in Brisbane.

The funeral of the late Mr. John Stenett took place yesterday from his residence, Northam, Fernberg Road, to Toowong Cemetery, and was attended by a large number of personal and commercial friends. Mr. Tracey Stennett, only son of the deceased, was chief mourner. The Pharmacy Board and Pharmaceutical Society were represented by Messrs. Field, Watkins. Fitzgibbon, J. W. Ward, J. Clarke, and E. C. Blake. The coffin, of plain English oak, and without other mounting than the Inscription plate, was draped with the flag of the P. and O. Steam Navigation Company, in which deceased had served eighteen years, and in accordance with a desire he had frequently expressed. Upon the coffin lay a floral cross from Mrs. Stennett, and wreaths from deceased's children and sister. Wreaths wore sent by the following : -Misses Stennett, Jamaica ; Sir Arthur and Lady Rutledge, Elliott Bros., Elliott Bros.' employees, Mr. R. and Miss Newton, Mr. and Mrs. H. D. Cohen, Taylor and Colledge, Mr. and Mrs. G. C. Elliott, Dr. J. Elliott, MT. and ..Mrs. Norman S. Cohen, Mrs. Stuart Cohen, Mr. and Mrs. C. B. Fletcher, Mr. and Mrs. B. D. Cohen, the maids of Northam, Mr. Stanley Harris, Mr. E. Rich (Rich and Co., Sydney), Miss Nell Graham, Mr. P. J. and Mr O'Shca, Mr. and Mrs. ,C. W. Rich, Dr. and Mrs. Hopkins, Mr. and Mrs. J. F. Fitzgerald, Mr. and Mrs. G. P. M. Murray, Mr. and Mrs. H. B. Lilley, Mr. and Mrs. Abercrombie, Mrs. H. E. Miller, Mr. and Mrs. Augustsen, Mr. and Mrs. Patching, &c. The service at the grave was conducted by the Rev. J. W. S. Tomlin, of Bishopsbourne. The funeral arrangements were carried out by Mr. J. Hislop, Queen-street. [Brisbane - Undertakers]

Tho funeral of the late Mr. George Elliott who died on Friday at his residence "Hazelmere", Elliott Street Balmain, took place on Saturday, the interment being made in the Church of England section of the Field of Mars Cemetery By the deceased's expressed desire the function was strictly private The principal mourners were Dr Elliott (brother) and four sons Rev W J Cakebread, of St. John's, Balmain, conducted a short service at his house, and also officiated at the grave.

LATE DR. ELLIOTT.
The funeral of Dr. James Frederick Elliott took place privately at the South Head Cemetery yesterday. One of the leading pharmaceutical chemists in Australia, he found time, In a crowded life, to engage in many commercial and other activities. I The second son of the late Dr. George Robinson Elliott, who founded the firm of Elliott Bros., Ltd., the late Dr. J. F. Elliott was born in Elliott Street, Balmain, in 1857, and was educated at the Sydney Grammar School. For his technical education be proceeded to London, thence to Germany. Returning to Sydney, he was appointed to the position of pharmaceutical chemist to Elliott Bros., Ltd., and he designed the laboratories at Rozelle. He also occupied the position of scientific director of the chemical works of the company, succeeding the late Mr. James R. Elliott as managing director of the chemical works and laboratories In these positions he had great opportunities of showing his ability as a chemical engineer, and under his supervision great progress was made in the manufacture of sulphuric and other mineral acids, and also the manufacture of superphosphates and other chemical manures, He was a leading authority on all .pharmaceutical matters and chemical engineering and was a life member of the Pharmaceutical Society of New South Wales. During the last few years he made several visits to England, the Continent, and the Far East, and was one of the founders of the oil industry In Timor. He took a special interest in the refinement of bismuth metal. Subsequent to the death of the late Mr. George Elliott in 1912 he became general manager and chairman of the board of directors of Elliott Bros., Ltd., and also became director of a number of other companies, Including the Australian Alliance Assurance Co., Consumers' Ammonia Co., of Australia, Ltd., Taylors and Elliotts, Ltd. (Brisbane), in which were amalgamated the businesses of Elliott Bros.. Ltd., and Taylor and Colledge, in Brisbane. He was a member of the New South Wales Club and the Royal Sydney Yacht Squadron. Yachting had a fascination for him and he introduced the 30ft class, and he sailed the Magic and the Meteor. Latterly, he owned the motor yacht, Lotus.

OBITUARY.
MR. WILLIAM ROBERT COWPER. After a comparatively short Illness, Mr. W. R. Cowper died at his residence, Deanery Cottage, Bowral, In his 67th year. Re was a grandson of the late Sir Charles Cowper, and great-grandson of the late Archdeacon William Cowper. The late Mr. Cowper was manager for the Commercial Banking Company at Camden for many years, and subsequently at West Maitland, from which he retired a few years ago. He is survived by a widow, four daughters, and one son. The son Is manager for the Commercial Banking Company at Braidwood. The funeral took place at the Church of England Cemetery, Bowral, and among those present were Messrs. P. R. Cowper (brother), R. Goldfinch, N. Carr, C. Rothe (sons-in-law), Norman Cowper (nephew). Harington Cowper, Cyril White (cousins), Gavin George, Colonel Macarthur Onslow, Messrs. Justin Brenan, C. Helm, D. Bell, A. Tooth, A. Cordeaux, Dr. Alsop, Dr. Harbison, and many others. The service was conducted by Rev. T. H. P. Morgan, assisted by the Rev. Cecil J. King, of Camden.
