When William died suddenly in 1884, Sarah Jane was left with 4 young children, and she carried on the work of the farm milking and making butter. Sarah Jane prospered and added to the cottage making a comfortable 6-room house surrounded by a pretty garden. She leased 130 acres from Abraham HARRIS, joining her own farm and ran sheep on it. The firewood on the HARRIS farm was also a large source of income. For 57 yrs after the death of her husband she lived on the 60 acres called "Netley Farm".
