"Was born in Glamorgan, Cardiff, Wales. Came out to NZ as a 3 yr old in the ship 'Leicester' in 1877 and landed at Petone Beach.
Was a loving grandmother and very artistic. Her home was 'home' to many, and the dining table was enormous and often full.
She was a handsome woman, always well dressed in tailor-made suits, and had a lovely fresh comlexion and pretty curly hair. She liked "red" colour, and she had quite a lot of red china, cups, saucers, plates and vases. She had cream curtains with quaint Dutch figures embroidered on the hems. She and John were no gardeners but the flower beds produced perennials, roses bloomed on the verandah rails, and sweetpeas climbed up the wall towards the upstairs bedrooms. Nasturtiums and blackberries rambled over an old wooden wall.

Born in Waipukurau. Attended the local school.
In 2001 Helen talked about her family attending the local Anglican Church, but as her mother had attended the Catholic Apostolic Church in Wellington in her youth, they still 'belonged' to it. They valued the visits and information coming from Wellington very highly, and found it much more valuable than church attendance with the Anglican church.
Her mother, Maude, was John Clunie BISHOP's youngest sister.
Attended Napier Anglican Girls boarding school, Woodford House, for a year. Then had a year taking art lessons, and enjoyed many years of sketching.
Never married, and helped look after her parents and family of brothers on the farm.
