11. Sarah SMITH [49703] (James⁵, Charles¹) was born on 11 Apr 1757 in London England and died on 13 Aug 1838 in Lambeth Surrey England at age 81.

Sarah married Joseph GUTTERIDGE [49705] [MRIN: 17805] on 24 Sep 1777 in St Luke's Old Street London England. Joseph was christened on 26 Aug 1752 in Leighton Buzzard Bedfordshire England and died in 1844 in Lambeth Surrey England at age 92.

The child from this marriage was:

   14 F    i. Sarah GUTTERIDGE [49706] was born on 24 Jan 1780 and died on 21 Dec 1864 at age 84.

Sarah married Wedd William NASH [49707] [MRIN: 17806], son of William NASH [49708] and Hester WEDD [49709], on 23 Jun 1842 in Lambeth Surrey England. Wedd was born about 1776 and died in 1858 in Lambeth Surrey England aged about 82.

13. John James SMITH [49691] (James⁵, Charles¹) was born on 29 Nov 1761 and died in 1821 in Watford Hertfordshire England at age 60.

General Notes: Information provided by John Robson says:-
John James Smith left his trade as a watchmaker to become a paper maker. On 06 December 1791 he became a freeman of the Stationers Company by redemption, and a liveryman 2 years later. He succeeded his father-in-law at Hamper Mill in 1798, where he continued to work and live until his death at the age of 60 in 1821.

The Will of John James Smith proven on 07 April 1821

This is the last will and testament of me, John James Smith, of Watford in the County of Herts, paper manufacturer.

I give and bequeath unto my sister, Sarah Gutteridge, and unto my niece, Sarah Gutteridge, one hundred pounds each of lawful money of Great Britain and I would have testified my respect by leaving them more but divine providence has so kindly appeared for them.

I give and bequeath unto each of my grandchildren, sons and daughter of my son James Smith, fifty pounds each to accumulate for their benefit until twenty one and in case of the death of either of them the same to go to the survivor or survivors.

I give and bequeath out of my personal estate one hundred pounds of lawful money of Great Britain unto the Treasurers for the time being of the Particular Baptist fund whereof I am now a Treasurer.
I give and bequeath out of my personal estate one hundred pounds unto the Treasurer for the time being of the Baptist Academy at Stepney for the use and benefit of such last mentioned societies respectively.
I give and bequeath out of my personal estate one hundred pounds unto the Treasurer for the time being of the fund for the relief of widows and children of Protestant Dissentors whereof Ebenezer Maitland Esquire is now Treasurer.
I give and bequeath out of my personal estate one hundred pounds unto the Treasurer for the time being of the Baptist Missionary Society to India whereof William Burls (?) Esquire is one of the Treasurers
And it is my will that the receipt and receipts of such treasurers respectively shall be good sufficient discharges to my executors for such four legacies.

I give and bequeath one hundred pounds to my sons James Smith and William Lepard Smith in trust to pay the interest thereof unto Mary Crayford, wife of John Crayford, for and during the term of her natural life to be free from the debts xxxx and engagements of her present or any after taken husband and to be for her sole and separate use and her receipt and receipts from time to time to be a good and sufficient discharge and discharges for the same and the principal after her decease to sink into and become part of my resdiuary estate.

I give and bequeath unto my niece, Sarah Salter, daughter of my dear friend, David Salter of Watford, fifty pounds.

I give and bequeath to the Reverend John Jones, at present resident at Watford, nineteen guineas.

To Mr Martin Kedgwick Masters of Watford as a friend and not at all connected with his professional attendance, nineteen guineas.

To my executors nineteen guineas to be distributed by them at their discretion among the poor members of the Baptist Church at Watford.

I give and bequeath to my executors ten pounds to be distributed by them at their discretion among the poor and most needy members of the Wesleyan Methodist Church at Watford.

To Daniel Adcock of Watford ten pounds and to John Crayford of Watford, husband of the said Mary Crayford ten pounds.

To Mrs Susan King and Miss Susan King of Watford ten pounds each.

To each of my three servants in Watford one years wages in addition to what maybe due to them.

And as to all the rest, residue and remainder of my real and personal estate and effects that I shall or may be possessed of, interested in or entitled unto at the time of my decease of whatsoever description the same may be in any way whatever I give devise and bequeath the same and every part thereof unto my sons, James Smith and William Lepard Smith, their heirs, executors, xxxx and assigns for ever as tenants in common and not as joint tenants.

I nominate my said (two lines follow which have been struck through) sons James Smith and William Lepard Smith executors of this my will and in case any difficulty shall arise in their minds as to carrying it into execution it is my wish and recommendation that they should consult my brother-in-law, their uncle Joseph Gutteridge Esquire from whom I have received perpetual acts of friendship particularly in my illness.

Hereby revoking all other wills in witness whereof I the testator have to my last will and testament contained in four sheets of paper set my hand and (another line struck though) seal my hand to the first three sheets and my hand and seal to the fourth and last sheet, the nineteenth of February one thousand eight hundred and twenty one John as Smith SS Signed, sealed, published and declared by the testator John James Smith as and for his last will and testament in the presence of us who in his presence at his request have subscribed our names as witnesses the words the same and four sheets being first introduced and the other alterations. Chapman Barber, Chancery Lane # Joseph Highmore # Susan Terk, servants to Mr Gutteridge.

John married Elizabeth LEPARD [49710] [MRIN: 17802], daughter of William LEPARD [49722] and Sarah BRADSHAW [49723], on 24 Apr 1788. Elizabeth died before 1821.

Children from this marriage were:

+ 15 M    i. James SMITH [36202] was born on 21 Oct 1791 in London England, was christened on 25 Dec 1791 in St Luke's Chelsea Middlesex England, and died on 01 Feb 1879 in Watford Hertfordshire England at age 87.

+ 16 M    ii. William Lepard SMITH [49711] was born in 1795 and died on 10 Sep 1869 at age 74.
