George Medley was a tenor in the choirs of The Chapels Royal and 'St. Peter's' (i.e. Westminster Abbey). He was a Lutenist to the Chapels Royal 1764-74, Gentleman Extraordinary of the Chapels Royal 1765-74 and Gentleman 1774 until his death in 1805. He was a Lay Vicar of Westminster Abbey 1765 - 96 but in 1796: 'has been incapable of singing for many years, through Asthma, and has been allowed to have a deputy both at the King's Chapel and the Abbey'. It seems that he had money, perhaps family money, and supported several charities.
On 13/7/1805, Jackson's Oxford Journal reported under deaths: George Medley Esq. of Grosvenor-place, in Guy's Hospital in consequence of a fall from his horse, in a fit, on the Greenwich Road, a few days before.
