Jessie married Angus ROSS [12819] [MRIN: 5529] about 1793 in Scotland.

The child from this marriage was:

6. Alexander MURRAY [12816] (John⁴, William³, William², William¹) was born in 1773 in Inchure Rogart Sutherland Scotland and died in 1862 in Rogart Sutherland Scotland at age 89.

General Notes:Married Helen MATHESON in 1830 at Dornoch.

In 1841 they are living at Achovely, Rogart.
In 1851 the family are at Achily (same place?). Alexander described as a 'lotter' with 7 acres.
In 1861 he was shown as a widower with 8 acres.
John - carpenter; Alexander - ploughman; William - shepherd, and Ann kept house.

By 1871 Alexander had died, and young Alexander took over the tenancy, and the farm is now referred to as Achillie. Marion has now returned with her husband who worked on the croft as the foreman.

Alexander married Helen MATHESON [12821] [MRIN: 5530] 25 Dec 1830 in Dornoch Sutherland Scotland. Helen was born about 1808 in Clash na Grave Nr.Dornoch Sutherland Scotland and died 29 Mar 1858 in Rogart Sutherland Scotland about age 50.

   16 M    vi. James MURRAY [12827] was born 13 Jul 1842 in Rogart Sutherland Scotland.

7. John MURRAY [12807] (John⁴, William³, William², William¹) was born 15 Feb 1777 in Inchure Rogart Scotland, died 21 Apr 1866 in Asdale Farm Rogart Sutherland Scotland at age 89, and was buried in St.Callan's Church Rogart Sutherland Scotland.

General Notes:John was born in Blairich, Rogart, Sutherland, Scotland, and was a crofter of Asdale Farm near
Bonar Bridge. He attended school at Dalnabreck, nr Balrich.

He married Ann MATHESON on 27 March 1804 at Dornoch.
Ann was born at Rearcher, the daughter of Donald MATHESON & Helen MacDONALD.

Rogart is in the north of Scotland - inland from Golspie and just north of Pittentrail. Very desolate part of Scotland.

Evicted from Acheilidh, Rogart, then from Rhroine, so went to Glasgow from 1818-1820. Back to Asdale where they remained till their death.

The 1841 census shows the family at Asdale (John a farmer). Living with the family was an Ann Murray aged 4 yrs. The 1851 census tells that the croft had 8 acres. John, then 73 yrs, was looking after a granddaughter, Anne Ross aged 12, and a grandson William Murray aged 9. John & Ann were alone in 1861.

John & Ann are buried in St Callan's Churchyard, Rogart.

Once overseas they founded a formidable and distinguished family. These include farmers, preachers, writers and researchers.

Had 7 children born abt 1820 - 1834.

He settled in Truro, Colchester County.

Buried Earltown, Nova Scotia.
