General Notes: General Notes: John, 2nd son of Sir Thomas, was Lord of Bamborough Castle, Co. Northumberland, by grant from the Crown; he was Deputy Warden of the Middle and East Marches, toward Scotland, for 37 years, and was Sheriff of Northumberland, Ed VI. Will dated 1601 died 1602. He married Jane, dau of Cuthbert Radclyffe, Esq. widow of Cuthbert, Lord Ogle of Ogle Co Northumberland.
In a Document "Copied from Foster Genealogy - by Pierce in 1899" it states :
Sir John was a "distinguished Military Leader in the Feuds between the English and Scottish Borderers .... .. he signed the Treaty concluded in 1563 between Queen Elizabeth I and Mary, Queen of Scots."
In a File of Information received from Marigold [Roberts] Potter in June 2011, it states that he was::
Owner & inhabitant of Edderston.
Led 60 men at Flodden in 1513.
Marshall of Berwick.
Knight of Bamborough Castle.
Warden of the middle marshes.
