General Notes: 1839 - Thomas, who was a Stonemason, his Wife Jaje, Richard and Samuel migrated to the new & exciting Colony of South Australia [Adelaide], founded in 1836. Extensive publicity had been given in England regarding the need for young Families and qualified Tradesmen in this new Land.
1851 - Gold was discovered in the Colony of Victoria. Thomas, Richard and Samuel were among the many from the Colony of South Australia to leave home and try their luck. They became successful Traders and by 1856 moved Jane and the younger Children to join them. Firstly, they lived in the Bendigo Area, then Stawell, Ararat and Bendigo again. Both Jane and Thomas are buried at Kangaroo Flat.
Of the 7 Children, 6 married and had Children. Descendants are numerous and are spread across Australia and New Zealand. Naturally there are others scattered across the World, notably in England, America and Holland.
On March the 23rd and 24th, 1985 the first Reunion of the Descendants of Thomas' and Jane's Descendants was held in Bendigo.

General Notes: In Joy Menhennett's Pryor Family Tree, she states:
On John's marriage certificate his name was given as John Pryor Pascoe. A common way of showing paternity was to give the male child his father's full name and his mother's surname. The idea being that if by chance the couple were able to marr y at a later date then the mother's surname would be dropped. Circumstances suggest strongly that John Pryor Pascoe's father was in fact John Pryor.
When John Pryor Pascoe married on the 7th April 1849 in the Parish Church at Wendron, his occupation was given as a Miner. He was of full age. and he lived at Fiscar. Witnesses to the marriage were Joseph Jenkin and John Pascoe.
John dropped off his mother's surname, taking his father's name, as proven in the registration of the birth of his twin sons.
When the 1851 Census for Redruth was taken, John and Charlotte together with their son, John aged 1 year, were living at Sandows Row, Redruth. John's occupation was given as a Copper Miner, born Wendron.
When John and Charlotte applied for emmigration to the Colonisation Committee they would have had to supply proof of their marriage. Because John was married under his baptismal name of John Pascoe, they would have had to travel under the name of Pascoe. On the "Isle of Thanet" shipping list John Pryor Pascoe was listed as a Miner aged 27 years from Cornwall. His wife Charlotte was aged 24 years and thier sons John aged 3 years and William aged 1 year. A line was drawn through William's name and dead was written in the column.
According to the obituary of John Pryor, they arrived in Adelaide,South Australia, the year of the Eureka Stockade, and after staying a short time there came on to Ballarat. Decendants tell that they went straight on to Garabaldi.
By 1859 they were living at Bakery Hill. In the Government Gazette of 1861 page 1906. John Pryor was included in the list of Shareholders of The Southern Cross Gold Mining Company, near the Inkerman Lead, Ballarat. Although John Pryor, miner was listed in the 1865 Ballarat and District Directory as living at Little Bendigo, it was known that he had shifted by February 1866 to Cobblers, south of Ballarat. Throughout his mining career, John was at Garabaldi, Bakery Hill, Little Bedigo, Cobblers, Browns Digging, back to Garabaldi before shifting his home into Gladstone St. Ballarat in 1882 when Francis was 11 years of age. He was considered to be one of the fortunate miners who had done well from his mining experiences, no doubt investing money in the North Woah Hawp Mine which operated on the exceptionally rich Canadian Gully on the south side of Sovereign Hill and paid rich dividends. This mine was the last of the east mines to close in 1918. He also owned several houses. He had each of his three sons trained as bootmakers, although only one carried on this profession.

"William Pryor with another young lad William Fowler went to work on the afternoon shift and whilst putting a set of timbers in one of the drives, the roof of the drive fell in, completely burying both of them..."

In his funeral notices, members of the L.O.I. No. 74 Lodge were requeste d to follow the remains of their late brother James Pryor to the Ballarat Old Cemetery on Sunday afternoon at half past two o'clock. The funeral was to move from his father's residence, Glastone St., near Mount Pleasant.
