10. Walter RIDDELL [55714] (Walter 14th Laird of Riddell⁹, George⁵, John⁴, James³, Unknown², Quintin¹) was born about 1520 and died in 1592 aged about 72.

Walter married someone.

His children were:

   15 F    i. RIDDELL [55718] .

RIDDELL married Thomas KER [55719].

   16 F    ii. RIDDELL [55720] .

+ 17 F    iii. Jean RIDDELL [83180] was born in 1561 in Roxburghshire Scotland and died in 1623 in Peebles Peebleshire Scotland at age 62.

11. Robert RIDDELL [112581] (Walter 14th Laird of Riddell⁹, George⁵, John⁴, James³, Unknown², Quintin¹) was born circa 1531 in Melrose Roxburghshire Scotland and died on 4 May 1581 aged about 50.

Robert married Margaret DIN [112582]. Margaret was born in Roxburgh Roxburghshire Scotland.

The child from this marriage was:

+ 18 M    i. James RIDDELL [112579] died in 1620.

14. Andrew RIDDELL 15th Laird of Riddell [55711] (Walter 14th Laird of Riddell⁹, George⁵, John⁴, James³, Unknown², Quintin¹) was born about 1550 in Melrose Roxburghshire Scotland and died on 4 Mar 1632 in Selkirk Selkirkshire Scotland aged about 82.

General Notes: In a Document received from Gail Riddell in November 2017, she stated that,
Andrew acquired Haining from the Scotts [who had become relations in the 1400s].
Andrew was served Heir in 1592, obtaining a Charter in 1595. Andrew was a Man of much importance, and having acquired Haining from the Scotts, the first possessios of it, held large territorial Possessions, and was called "The Baron of Riddell". Though lordly in his position, he was a mon of humility, for he was offered the Baronetcy, which he declined. He di not, however, prevent his eldest Son, John, who was a Person of considerable Talent, accepting the Honour, which was conferred on the 14th of May, 1628, about three Years after the institution of the order in Scotland.
The Document goes on to say,
His tombstone in the aisle of Riddell (? Abbey burying-ground at Jedburgh?) gives his death in 1632, at the age of eighty-two. His second wife erected an additional stone to his memory, and there is also a stone to the memory of his son Andrew of Haining,
whose life was ìshort but good,î and with the exception of a more ancient stone, with a recommendation to pray for the soul, though no name is to be seen, there is no other memorial in the old aisle, which was once the choir of the ancient church, superseded by the present in 1771, over a century ago.

• Family "Seat": The Haining, or Haining House, where he lived, 1591, Selkirk Selkirkshire Scotland.

• Death: at Haining House, 4 Mar 1632, Selkirk Selkirkshire Scotland.

Andrew married Agnes RAMSEY [55713], daughter of Sir George RAMSEY [of Dalhousie] [112546] and Elizabeth HEPBURN [112604], on 1 Feb 1567. Agnes was born circa 1537 and died before 1595.

   19 M    i. Walter RIDDELL [55733] was born before 1570. (Infant Death)

+ 20 M    ii. Sir John RIDDELL Kt, 1st Bart. [55707] was born in 1576 in Galashiels Selkirkshire Scotland and died on 12 Jul 1636 at age 60.

   21 M    iii. Robert RIDDELL of Hartsyde [112776] was born about 1580.

   22 M    iv. James RIDDELL of Maybole [55732] was born about 1586 in Selkirk Selkirkshire Scotland. (Infant Death)

Andrew next married Unknown WIFE OF ANDREW RIDDELL [112774] circa 1586.

The child from this marriage was:

+ 23 M    i. William RIDDELL of Newhouse & Muselie [55734] was born about 1587.

Andrew next married Violette DOUGLAS [112626], daughter of William DOUGLAS of Pumpherston [112636], about 1590. Violette was born about 1560 and died about 1633 aged about 73.

+ 24 M    i. Andrew RIDDELL [of Haining] [55725] was born about 1590 and died after 1620. (Died [relatively] Young)

   25 F    ii. Margaret RIDDELL [112629] was born about 1592 in Selkirk Selkirkshire Scotland.

Margaret married Robert RUTHERFORD [112630] on 26 Oct 1620. Robert was born circa 1575.

Margaret next married Archibald PORTEOUS [112631].

   26 F    iii. Isabel RIDDELL [112627] was born about 1594 in Selkirk Selkirkshire Scotland.

Isabel married Robert KER [112628].

   27 F    iv. [Miss] RIDDELL [112632] was born about 1595 in Selkirk Selkirkshire Scotland.

   28 F    v. [Miss] RIDDELL [112634] was born about 1598 in Selkirk Selkirkshire Scotland.

[Miss] married Sir John SCOTT [112635].

   29 F    vi. Jean RIDDELL [112775] was born about 1600 in Roxburghshire Scotland, died in 1660 in Jedburgh Roxburghshire Scotland aged about 60, and was buried in 1660 in Jedburgh Abbey Roxburghshire Scotland.

General Notes: A Document received from Gail Riddell in November 2017 includes:
a stone in the Abbey burying-ground at Jedburgh Abbey in memory of Jean Riddell, daughter of Andrew, born 1600, and died 1660 (and presented on Page 134 by James Watson - published 1894 - "Jedburgh Abbey...") The tombstone is on the South side, in the Fernington allotment and reads thus:-
" Here lies a religious and virtuous gentlewoman, Jean Riddell, daughter of Sir Andrew Riddell of that ilk, who died in the year of God, MDCLX., and of her age 60.
She lived a holy life,
To Christ resigned her breath. Her soul is now with God, Triumphing over death !"
