My father was known as Francis. You will find several references to him on the internet in connection with meteorology, cloud formation and together with his brother, John, his aeroplane the Archaeopteryx of which he was the designer.
In the war he became a test pilot at Farnborough where he crashed testing Mosquitos at high altitude saving his life by flying
into a wood. He badly injured his leg and has to wear a special boot.
He died of cancer of the throat which formed at a place where he had received an injury in the crash.
