28. Margaret ROSE [12866] (Donald⁹, Donald¹) was born 13 Nov 1835 in Lochbroom Ross and Cromarty Scotland, was christened 23 Apr 1836 in Lochbroom Ross and Cromarty Scotland, died 16 Jan 1927 in Dunedin Otago New Zealand at age 91, and was buried in Northern Cemetery Dunedin Otago New Zealand.

Married a preacher, Angus ROSS in Glasgow on 13 November 1860.

Came to NZ about 1866.
They first emigrated to Australia where they lived at Castlemaine,Victoria.

In NZ they lived at 30 Pine Hill Terrace, Dunedin.

Angus was a dour Scot who ruled his household with a rod of iron with frequent recourse to the Bible. Jemima (Jean) was the only daughter who had the courage to get married. Old Angus was a strict teetotaller and campaigned vigorously in the cause of prohibition.

All the family are buried in the Northern Cemetery, Dunedin.

Margaret married Angus ROSS [12968] [MRIN: 5564] 13 Nov 1860 in Glasgow Lanarkshire Scotland. Angus was born about 1830 in Glasgow Lanarkshire Scotland and died 18 Oct 1917 in Dunedin Otago New Zealand about age 87.

They had a family of 10. All living children were girls.

They first emigrated to Australia where they lived at Castlemaine, Victoria. Three children were born there.

Angus spent some time on the gold diggings in Australia where he was a wine and spirit merchant.

The 4th child was born in Dunedin, then Balclutha, then Tapanui.

Angus was a dour Scot who ruled his household with a rod of iron with frequent recourseto the Bible. Only one daughter had the courage to get married.

They lived at 30 Pine Hill Tce, Dunedin.

He died in 1917 in Dunedin, NZ.

General Notes:Cannot find Wester Baddarach in any Atlas. However, Culrain is near the mouth of Strath Oykel.

Donald married Annabella McLEOD [12989] [MRIN: 5566], daughter of Donald McLEOD [14630] and Alexandrina [14631], 25 Jan 1878 in Tain Ross and Cromarty Scotland. Annabella was born about 1848, died 01 Feb 1915 about age 67, and was buried in Kincardine Cemetery Kincardine Ross and Cromarty Scotland.

General Notes:John came to NZ in 1870 with his brother, William, and some cousins on the ship "Schleswig Bride". They came to Otago, and went to Balclutha looking for work.

He married Lydia PERKINS in 1874 in Dunedin, and their first daughter was born at Balclutha. Then they moved to Abbotsford Station, Lee Stream.

In 1880 John managed to buy his own farm near Waitahuna and called it ' Rutherglen'.

In 1893 they lived in the Bruce electorate, Waitahuna.

John died in 1925 in Waitahuna, and buried in the Waitahuna Cemetery.
Lydia died in 1928 in Waitahuna, and buried with him. Her will was filed 16 November 1928 in Dunedin Ct.

John married Lydia PERKINS [12995] [MRIN: 5567] 02 Oct 1874 in Knox Church Dunedin Otago New Zealand. Lydia was born in Oxfordshire England, died in 1928 in Waitahuna Otago New Zealand, and was buried in Waitahuna Cemetery Waitahuna Otago New Zealand.
