General Notes: In an email dated January 25, 2003, Virginia Currey wrote:
"I said Pearl Armitage's middle name was Eloise. Suddenly I am not sure. The reasoning for it goes back to what my mother once said. Mother's middle name was Emma and she didn't like that name. She indicated that when her parents said Pearl's name to family they must have written Pearl E. I gather the family came back and must have said "how nice, Eloise." So Pearl got what mother said was Eloise (probably should have said Eloisa which was their grandmother Armitage's name). NOW HOWEVER, WHEN I got out Pearl's old hard copy scrapbook, in the front was written "Pearl Eleanor Armitage, Feb. 12, 1894, Peru, Indiana" The handwriting was not Aunt Pearl's. The hard copy book was an old insurance book - could have been my grandfather's but I think more likely it was John Jamieson's which Pearl used as a scrapbook after they were married perhaps. Lots of ifs."

General Notes: In an email, dated January 23, 2003, Virginia Hawley Currey states:
"I was born 80 years ago, soon to be 81 in Peru, Indiana, a little down about 70 miles south of Mishawaka where I have lived since 1950. I refuse to say I am getting old; I just say older. Some people when they learn my age, act surprised, and say I don't look it. It's hard to tell whether they are being nice or honest. I hope the latter.
What I do lately seems to be sit at this computer and work on genealogy. I'm not only doing Armitage, but Hawley, Timberlake, and Foulke. I also read a lot, play bridge, knit dish cloths, rock babies in the newborn intensive care unit at a South Bend hospital; serve on Friends of the Library board; belong to a Great Books group, and a few other activities. And Bob and I like to travel. Last year this time we were getting ready to fly to London for 3 days and then on to Malta. We've been in Asia and Europe but not SA or to your area. We also go to Mexico on Lions Club yearly missions to test the eyesight and distribute eyeglasses to people who cannot afford to see a doctor.
Bob and I met on a blind date in college and had what he called the longest engagement on record. But WWII interfered. After he came home, we were married and I returned to INDIANA UNIV. with him for his last year of law school and together with the GI Bill helped put food on the table by working as Asst. Editor of the I.U ALUMNI MAGAZINE. We've lived in Mishawaka, Bob's hometown, ever since he graduated and opened his law office. Once partners with our son Dick, now he works for Dick and works fewer hours. We have 4 grandchildren - Dick and Chris' teenage daughter and son. Our daughter Carolyn lives in MA. She went East to college and never returned to the Midwest. She and her husband Carl have two little boys and live in Stow - not the Sound of Music Stow - but in MA, near Boston.
We talk of downsizing but continue to live in a two-story brick home set on 3 1/2 acres right in town, but next to a golf course. (Summer activities find me riding a tractor to mow the yard.) The kids used to sell the balls that came over into our yard. I think we have several hundred stored in a basement closet. Do you golf? "
