First Generation  Next

1. John William WALTON [16444] was born about 1765 and died before 1851.

General Notes: It is reported by William Furley, that John had a wholesale business, but a partner had ruined it.

1). Residence in 1812 - St. Andrew, Holborn, London. (Marriage to Ann) Pallot Marriage Index. The entry states that John & Ann were both of this Parish.

2). Residence between 1816 - 1819 - Wellington Street, Saint Luke, Middx. (Son James's birth & daughter Ann's 1851 census return)

3). Residence in 1821 - 1829 - St. Leonard, Shoreditch, Middx. (Son George's birth & daughter Jane's 1851 census return) I can't make out the exact address on the photocopy I have of Georges birth entry. Document no. RG 5/125 Public Record Office (Dr. William's Library, dated August 1, 1828, no. 178)

4). Occupation - Oilman ( Daughters Jane & Anns' 1854 marriage certificates) N.B. Both certificates do not mention that the girls' father was deceased, unlike George's marriage certificate in 1857. However, wife Ann's 1851 census return, clearly states that she was a widow.

5). John died before 1851.

6). John was a Protestant Dissenter.

Death Certificate - I have an 1839 death certificate for a John William Walton (Ironmonger) who died on December 7th. at the Sign of the Golden Cross, in Charring Cross, London. He was 45 years of age. No conclusive proof that this is my John Walton yet.

Between 1823 & 1826, Pigot's Directory has a John Walton in business as an Oilman at 16 Bridge Road, Lambeth. Again, no conclusive proof.

The I.G.I. has a John William Walton christened 16th. April, 1789 at St. Andrew Undershaft, London. Parents James & Ann Walton. The names James & Ann incidentally, were given to two of his children.

John married Ann DOWDING [16445], daughter of Jacob DOWDING [16446] and Ann HILL [16447], on 6 Sep 1812 in St Andrew Holborn London England. Ann was born about 1787 in St Luke Old Street Middlesex England and died about 1856 aged about 69.

General Notes: Ann was a widow by 1851.(1851 census). She was still alive in 1855. (1855 Indenture). I believe she died between 1855 & 1860. By 1860, George had moved to Vine Cottages in Hammersmith.
