However, in an email received on July the 23rd, 2003, from harold Chesterman, was a copy of an Inscription on a Plate on the old "Bow Works", that reads as follows:-

"The City of Sheffield
James Chesterman (1792-1867)
James Chesterman moved to Sheffield from London in 1820. Nine years later he patented the spring tape measure. He also invented the self-winding window blind, produced the first long steel Measuring tape and the first Woven metallic tape. His business adopted the bow as its trademark, and he named his factory the bow works which moved to this site in 1864.
James Chesterman & Co became synonymous with high quality measuring instruments, especially tapes, callipers and squares. In 1963 amalgamation with John Rabone & Sons created Rabone Chesterman, who were subsequently bought by Stanley Tools and transferred to Stanley's Woodside Plant.
Bow Works was refurbished and extended for its new occupants, Norwich Union in 1993.
Norwich Union."

James next married Harriett M HEWITT [3802], daughter of George HEWITT [43667] and Sarah [92457]. Harriett was born on May 11, 1800 in Sheffield Yorkshire England, was baptised on May 11, 1800 in St Peter's Cathedral Sheffield Yorkshire England, died on Apr 27, 1884 in Sheffield Yorkshire England at age 83, and was buried in General Cemetery Sheffield Yorkshire England.

General Notes: Harriet appears in the 1861 Census. On the day the Census was taken she was at the home of her Daughter Harriet and her Son-in-Law, William Ward. At that time they were living at 4 Bilbie Street, Nottingham. It is assumed that she was only visiting as she is shown in the Census as the Mother-in-Law of the Head of the House, William; and as a Manufacturer's Wife.
