16. Lord Richard V d'UMFREVILLE of Redesdale [120389] (Odinel II⁹, Odinel I⁵, Robert III of Tours & Vian (Lord)³, Robert II of Tours & Vian (Lord)², Robert¹) was born about 1163 in Redesdale Northumberland England and died on 11 Dec 1226 in Prudhoe Northumberland England aged about 63.

General Notes: In a Document received from Marigold [Roberts] Potter in March 2021, she stated that,
Richard pledged lands of Turnay to "Aaron a Jew for the sum of £22, 6s. which he then owed the Israelite".
John decreed that Richard d' Umfreville must not graze, hunt or cut down timber in the forest of Riddesdale. For the next coming 9 years. Times were turbulent, so Richard delivered his four sons in hostage and his castle at Prudhoe as guarantee of his loyalty to King John. However, when his lands were granted to Hugh Balliol, Richard along with many other Barons took up arms against the King.
When Henry III became king, d' Umfreville made his peace with the crown, with the result that his Lands and Castle were restored to the family.
Of this Richard, Wikipedia says,
Succeeding his brother Robert II around 1195, he was among the northern barons who resisted the exactions of King John and came under suspicion of treachery, being required in 1212 to hand over to the King his Sons and his castle of Prudhoe. By 1216 he joined the rebels fighting John and his lands were forfeit, though he later made peace with the government of King Henry III. With a wife whose name is unknown he had at least four sons, including Gilbert II, and two daughters.

Richard married Margaret de BALLIOL [124007]. Margaret was born in 1167 in Bywell Northumberland England and died in 1262 in Bywell Northumberland England at age 95.

   23    ii. Robert IV d'UMFREVILLE [124010] was born about 1197 in Kirkley Northumberland England and died in Chollerton Northumberland England.

   24    iii. Odinel d'UMFREVILLE [124011] was born about 1199 in Prudhoe Northumberland England.

   25    iv. William d'UMFREVILLE [124012] was born about 1201 in Prudhoe Northumberland England and died about 1231 in Ovingham Northumberland England aged about 30.

   26    v. Sybilla d'UMFREVILLE [124013] was born about 1203 in Prudhoe Northumberland England and died about 1242 in Prudhoe Northumberland England aged about 39.

   27    vi. Richard d'UMFREVILLE [124014] was born in 1207 in Prudhoe Northumberland England.
