After participating in the Battle of Hastings in 1066 alongside William the Conqueror, Duke of Normandy, he was appointed Knight for his war Acts and became Sir Richard FORSTER, Knight and received estates in the South of Scotland namely at Etherstone (Addertsone) in Northumbria (Northumberland).
When he lived in Flanders he used the name Forestarius until he came to live in Northumberland.
Patrick's Document goes on to say:
Sir Richard FORESTER's ancestry is problematic because three versions are extant, viz:

1. Some renowned historians (Charles Cawley and Stewart Balwin) claim that he simply served as a forester in Flanders on behalf of Baudouin V of Flanders and that, accompanied by his father ?? FORESTER, he left to join William the Conqueror to take part in the Battle of Hastings in 1066 against Harold II, King of England.
As a result of his wartime events he was reportedly elevated to the rank of Knight and also received many estates in the South of Scotland at Etherstone (Adderstone) in Northumberland.

2. This version is disputed by other renowned historians and genealogists who claim that Sir Richard Forester has a much more illustrious other ancestry.
Indeed, and following research by Clifton Pierce (1855-1904), Sir Charles Oman (1860-1946) and Joseph Foster, who wrote the famous book "The Pedigree of the Forsters and Fosters of the North of England(1871)", Sir Richard Forester was the son of Baudouin V of Adelaide and Capet, Princess of France, but this would only be half accurate.
Richard Forster is in fact only the 'illegitimate' son of Baudouin V Count of Flanders and ??
In this case and after his victory against Harold II King of England, William the Conqueror-turned-King of England, would have given the castle of Etherstone-Bamborough to Baudouin V Earl of Flanders who turned it into a fortress.
This fortress was then occupied for generations by the FORRESTERS who became FORSTER.
Sir Richard Forster may well be the son of Baudouin V Earl of Flanders, but doubts remain as he is only the 'illegitimate' son of Baudouin V Earl of Flanders.

a final version confirms that Sir Thomas Forster (1385-?) is indeed the son of Robert Forster of Buckton himself descended from Roger of Buckton (1210-?) and Agnes of Vesci who is the granddaughter of Eustache of Vesci and Margaret of Scotland, the daughter that William I the Lion, King of Scotland had with Adam of Hythus, his mistress.

General Notes: Wikipedia says of William,
Brewer's ancestry is unclear, but he was probably the son of Henry Brewer and the grandson of William Brewer, Royal Forester of Bere, Hampshire,[4] who founded the nunnery of Polsloe in Exeter. William Brewer, Bishop of Exeter, was one of his nephews.

He began his career as Forester of Bere, a hereditary title,[5] and by 1179 had been appointed Sheriff of Devon.[6] Under King Richard I (1189\endash 1199) he was one of the justiciars appointed to administer the kingdom while the king was on the Third Crusade. He was present at Worms, Germany, in 1193 to aid in the negotiations for the ransom of King Richard. In about 1193 he began his career as a Baron of the Exchequer, an office that he exercised until the reign of King Henry III (1216\endash 1273).[7]

Under King John (1199\endash 1216) Brewer was one of the most active figures in government, in terms of the number of royal charters he witnessed,[8] together with Henry Marshal, Bishop of Exeter and Geoffrey FitzPeter, 1st Earl of Essex. During this period he was appointed Sheriff of Berkshire, Sheriff of Cornwall, Sheriff of Devon, Sheriff of Hampshire, Sheriff of Nottinghamshire and Derbyshire, Sheriff of Oxfordshire, Sheriff of Somerset and Dorset and Sheriff of Sussex and Sheriff of Wiltshire. He was often unpopular with the inhabitants of his counties, and the men of Cornwall, Somerset, and Dorset paid money to the king for his removal.[9]

He founded and endowed three monasteries: Torre Abbey, which was sited within his manor of Tor Brewer in Devon, in 1196; Mottisfont Abbey in Hampshire in 1201; and Dunkeswell Abbey in Devon in 1201.[10]

In 1224, he retired from the world to live as a Cistercian monk at Dunkeswell Abbey, where he died in 1226 and was buried with his wife before the high altar

Baldwin IV was the son of Count Arnulf II of Flanders (c. 961 \emdash 987) and Rozala of Italy (950/60 \endash 1003), of the House of Ivrea.[2] He succeeded his father as Count of Flanders in 987,[2] but with his mother Rozala as the regent until his majority.

In contrast to his predecessors Baldwin turned his attention eastward, leaving the southern part of his territory in the hands of his vassals the counts of Guînes, Hesdin, and St. Pol.[3] To the north of the county Baldwin was given Zeeland as a fief by the Holy Roman Emperor Henry II, while on the right bank of the Scheldt river he received Valenciennes (1013) and parts of the Cambresis as well as Saint-Omer and the northern Ternois (1020).[4] In his French territories, the supremacy of the Baldwin remained unchallenged. Odo II (French: Eudes) (983 \endash 15 November 1037) was the count of Blois, Chartres, Châteaudun, Beauvais and Tours from 1004 and count of Troyes (as Odo IV) and Meaux (as Odo I) from 1022. He twice tried to make himself a king: first in Italy after 1024 and then in Burgundy after 1032.

Odo II was the son of Odo I of Blois and Bertha of Burgundy.[1] He was the first to unite Blois and Champagne under one authority although his career was spent in endless feudal warfare with his neighbors and suzerains, many of whose territories he tried to annex.[2]

About 1003/4 he married Maud, a daughter of Richard I of Normandy.[3] After her death in 1005,[1] and as she had no children, Richard II of Normandy demanded a return of her dowry: half the county of Dreux.[4] Odo refused and the two warred over the matter.[4] Finally, King Robert II, who had married Odo's mother, imposed his arbitration on the contestants in 1007, leaving Odo in possession of the castle Dreux while Richard II kept the remainder of the lands.[4] Odo quickly married a second wife, Ermengarde, daughter of William IV of Auvergne [fr].[4]

Defeated by Fulk III of Anjou and Herbert I of Maine at the Battle of Pontlevoy in July 1016, he quickly tried to overrun the Touraine.[2] After the death of his cousin Stephen I in 1019/20, without heirs he seized Troyes, Meaux and all of Champagne for himself without royal approval.[5] From there he attacked Ebles, the archbishop of Reims, and Theodoric I, Duke of Lorraine. Due to an alliance between the king and the Emperor Henry II he was forced to relinquish the county of Rheims to the archbishop.

He was offered the crown of Italy by the Lombard barons, but the offer was quickly retracted in order not to upset relations with the king of France. In 1032, he invaded the Kingdom of Burgundy on the death of Rudolph III.[6] He retreated in the face of a coalition of the Emperor Conrad II and the new king of France, Henry I.[7] In 1037 he took advantage of Conrad II's absence in Italy to invade the Duchy of Lorraine, but he died in the rout after being defeated by the forces of Gothelo I, Duke of Lorraine, in the Battle of Bar-le-Duc.[

Baldwin was the eldest son of Baldwin V of Flanders and Adela, a daughter of King Robert II of France[1][2] and Constance of Arles.[3] His father arranged his marriage, under threat of arms, to Richilde, the widow of Herman of Mons and heir of Hainaut.[4] As Hainaut was a part of the Holy Roman Empire this enraged Emperor Henry III, who had not been consulted, causing him to wage war on the two Baldwins but was not successful.[4] Between 1050 and 1054 Count Lambert II of Lens fought alongside the Baldwins against Henry III finding that this alliance best protected his interests.[a][5]

Baldwin VI died on 17 July 1070.[1] Baldwin had constructed the church of St. Peter's of Hasnon, placed monks there and designated it as his burial place.[6] His early death left Flanders and Hainaut in the hands of his young son, Arnulf III, with Richilde as regent.[7] Arnulf III was killed at the Battle of Cassel (1071).[8] Baldwin VI's younger son, Count Baldwin II of Hainaut,[1] could not claim Flanders from Baldwin VI's brother, Robert I.

Ramon Berenguer I (1023\endash 1076), called the Old (Catalan: el Vell, French: le Vieux), was Count of Barcelona in 1035\endash 1076. He promulgated the earliest versions of a written code of Catalan law, the Usages of Barcelona.

Born in 1024, he succeeded his father, Berenguer Ramon I the Crooked in 1035.[2] It was during his reign that the dominant position of Barcelona among the other Catalan counties became evident.

Ramon Berenguer campaigned against the Moors, extending his dominions as far west as Barbastro and imposing heavy tributes (parias) on other Moorish cities.[2] Historians claim that those tributes helped create the first wave of prosperity in Catalan history. During his reign Catalan maritime power started to be felt in the western Mediterranean. Ramon Berenguer the Old was also the first count of Catalonia to acquire lands (the counties of Carcassonne and Razés) and influence north of the Pyrenees.[2]

Another major achievement of his was beginning the codification of Catalan law in the written Usatges of Barcelona which was to become the first full compilation of feudal law in Western Europe. Legal codification was part of the count's efforts to forward and somehow control the process of feudalization which started during the reign of his weak father, Berenguer Ramon. Another major contributor was the Church acting through the institution of the Peace and Truce of God. This established a general truce among warring factions and lords in a given region for a given time. The earliest extant date for introducing the Truce of God in Western Europe is 1027 in Catalonia, during the reign of his father, Berenguer Ramon.

While still married to his second wife Blanca, he became involved with the wife of the Count of Toulouse, Almodis de La Marche, countess of Limoges.[3] Both quickly married and were consequently excommunicated by Pope Victor II.[3][4]

Ramon Berenguer I, together with his third wife Almodis, also founded the Romanesque cathedral of Barcelona, to replace the older basilica presumably destroyed by Almanzor. Their velvet and brass bound wooden coffins are still displayed in the Gothic cathedral which eventually replaced the cathedral that they founded.

He was succeeded by his twin sons Ramon Berenguer II and Berenguer Ramon II.

Odo I (1060 \endash 1102[1] at Tarsus), also known as Eudes, surnamed Borel and called the Red, was duke of Burgundy between 1079 and 1102. Odo was the second son of Henry of Burgundy and grandson of Robert I. He became the duke following the abdication of his older brother, Hugh I, who retired to become a Benedictine monk at Cluny.[2]

He participated in the French expedition to the Iberian peninsula, started after the Battle of Sagrajas and ending with little accomplished in the failed Siege of Tudela in 1087.[3] Later, he participated in the Crusade of 1101, where he died, while in Asia Minor, in 1101.[4]

In a charter from his expedition to the Iberian peninsula, he admitted he had withheld property belonging to the abbey of Saint-Philibert de Tournus, an abbey patronized by his aunt Constance, wife of Alfonso VI of León and Castile. In 1101, when leaving on crusade, he made a gift and a will in favor of the abbey of Molesme. Also when leaving on crusade, he signed a charter of renunciation at St. Beningne de Dijon and another at the priory of Gevrey-Chambertin.[4]

An interesting incident is reported of Odo by an eyewitness, Eadmer, biographer of Anselm of Canterbury. While Saint Anselm was progressing through Odo's territory on his way to Rome in 1097, the bandit, expecting great treasure in the archbishop's retinue, prepared to ambush and loot it. Coming upon the prelate's train, the duke asked for the archbishop, whom they had not found. Anselm promptly came forward and took the duke by surprise, saying "My lord duke, suffer me to embrace thee." The flabbergasted duke immediately allowed the bishop to embrace him and offered himself as Anselm's humble servant.
